June is the month the weirdness starts

Well, here we are at the end of June, England have tumbled out of Euro 2004 as a result of being cr*p against Portugal. Many will blame the referee, quite a few could blame the penalty spot, a few may even criticize the penalty takers, but if the truth be known (or just recognised) we did not play well enough. We scored an early goal, became complacent and defended too much. Steven Gerrard was not his normal self, (fatigued?) and Wayne Rooney had to leave the pitch after breaking a bone in his foot. Perhaps that was the turning point, the loss of our star player and talisman but it still does not excuse the woeful performance of the team as a hole.

Now, all the countries hopes are pinned on tiger Tim Henman at Wimbledon, although he hasn't made a brilliant start to this years tournament, and of course, being Wimbledon fortnight has brought in wind and rain to replace the previous weeks of hot sunshine...oh well.

After Wimbledon and Tim's inevitable demise we shall turn our hopes on Athens, Greece and the 2004 Olympic Games, another spectacle for us to enjoy.

Of course, being June another UK traditional even has kicked off, the Glastonbury music festival, another event that seem bound to attract bad weather.

Earlier this week we saw the summer solstice with thousands of watchers staying up for the whole night to watch the sun rise over the stones of Stonehenge. Personally, I think the site of the sun rising is pretty impressive but I'm not sure I'd want to be a stone hugger and spend the night with weird Druids and wiffy hippies.

Of course, where would the summer be without crop circles. Wiltshire seems to be a world focus for the creation of these interesting designs. I don't know what causes the odd 5% that are non-human in origin but they sure do make for entertaining viewing and reading in the local media. What really arouses my curiosity is the fact that a lot of the really intricate (man made) ones are in locations that mean they cannot be easily viewed and only get discovered if "stumbled upon" by a walker or someone in their micro-light.

Ah well, none so strange as man I guess, be good, be happy

Saturday June 12

Well, the summer of sport has begun. Euro 2004 is underway with Portugal playing Greece and England play France tomorrow, Sunday.
Tennis at the Queens club in Brighton is well underway although all the British players are out already and England are facing a tough job against New Zealand in the third cricket test.

So, with Wimbledon due to start, the soccer well underway, cricket drawing to a close and the Olympics just over the horizon it is looking to be a spectacular summer.

As for the family, well today I did some basic carpentry in the garage and made a wooden "cage" for the trash bags. This means that all the bags can be kept tidily until the trash man cometh and soon we are off to the mighty Asda to carry out the weekly shop for food.

I guess that's about it for now. There'll probably be more tomorrow because we are off to Ringstead Bay, for a day by the seaside so for nor
